Playing with fire...Mama could be watching?
Another customer rant.
This past weekend we had a gentleman walk into the store saying he wanted to buy a handgun. We showed him some handguns and explained to him the HQL process.
He leans over the counter and whispers, "I have a felony arrest but they still let me buy guns." What!!! LOL, we told him sorry but we cannot sell him a firearm and he continues with, "I have cash. Can we work out a deal (wink wink)? SMDH! Told him sorry, but BUH BYE! LOL.
Same weekend a kid comes into the shop saying he makes over $100K because he is a rapper who owns his own label and needs something to protect his home. Again, we explain the HQL and application process. He asks if we have any of the bullets that disintegrate once it enters the body. We politely tell him no we do not and have not heard of them. He says he wants to get some because he has expensive couches in his home and do not want to mess them up with blood just in case he has to shoot someone. ?!?! SMH again!
I had the misfortune of missing this by about 10 minutes at a LGS. Someone had acquired a 8mm Beretta 92 blank gun and thought it was the real deal. (something tells me there wasn't a 77R on that transaction) The gentleman in question and his friend asked for ammo for a Beretta 92 so they sold him some 9mm ammo. They came back later saying the ammo didn't fit the gun, the staff looked at the gun, figured out what it was, and told them that it was a special gun that only the police have ammo for.
Shakespeare had it right: first kill all the lawyers.

#1 almost sounds like a visitor from some anti-gun activist group.
Get one of those super-cheap clear plastic water guns, and keep it under the counter, stored in a top-quality OEM gun case.
When someone like this genius walks in and starts with his (wink, wink... "I'll pay cash") routine, do this:
Wink back at the guy... then in a hushed tone, say...
"Tell you what, pal - sometimes I get customers like you, who I really want to help, 'cuz I know you're on the up-and-up, but through no fault of your own you're somehow prohibited from owning guns. So I have this really nice piece I've been saving. It's untraceable. I can sell it to you, cash only, but you have to give me your WORD that you'll never tell anyone where you got it. Because it would mean losing my business, if word got out. The price is $300, firm. If you're willing to pay, I'm willing to sell right now. Do you want to check it out?"
When the guy eagerly accepts, pull the case and place it on the counter in front of him. Pause, and dramatically open the latches and lift the lid to reveal the water pistol.
"She's a beauty, isn't she?" you say, with a deadpan Leslie Nielsen delivery.
(Incidentally, if any LGS owners ever do this, PLEASE post the security video to YouTube...)

#3 was a guy who called the shop about a dozen times trying to comprehend why he couldn't buy a shotgun in Maryland. Kept insisting other gun shops were telling him they would sell him, an out of state Florida resident, a shotgun out the door. Non active duty or retired. Said he could buy one in VA, WV, SC, NC being a Florida resident. We kept telling him this was Maryland, where firearm laws don't make sense. He just COULD NOT comprehend and we told him neither do we!
Finally we told him to go to those gun shops that told him he could walk out the door with a shotgun and spend his money there. Also gave him the MDSP number to call to tell them where and what he just did.

You know, we at the shop have always gone with the old law that we can only sell long guns to residents of border states. Unless we are doing an FFL transfer, where we would ship the long gun to an FFL in his state as long as he is allowed to have it.
Is that old law now bunk? 86 right?
Whoopsie. The shop owner abides by the old law and we comply

Lost sale on a completely legal long gun sale.
