I have an Arsenal and a Century AK.

For the money Arsenal gives you some good quality and performance.

I don't think you could go wrong with the Arsenal.

Just a thought but, have you looked in to a 5.45x39? (AK-74)

There is lots of surplus ammo out there and they are very accurate.

I lump IO in with Century and TGI builds... they all tend to suffer from the occasional quality control issues. While I love the look of IOs RPK-style stock it's definitely "low end" furniture, including the Tapco handguard.

If you want a good project gun--given your WTB post--get a Saiga. It's a solid base to improve as you see fit. I'd be more than happy to help you with a conversion.

Last July there was a vendor at chantilly selling saiga's for $280.00 I would assume that a saiga converted is as close to a real russian military ak as you can get.

Do it! 5.45 is like night and day compared to x39... almost no recoil and greatly improved accuracy. At 12 cents a round, at least while the supply of corrosive surplus lasts, the gun will have paid for itself in ammo savings alone after a few thousand rounds.

my only hang up is the ammo. I know its cheap but the fear of a Obama Ammo Import Block would render this gun almost useless. I have been pricing them out and the CAI Bugly is affordable
