Wouldn't a Star BM be C&R and thus HQL not needed?
I honestly don't know what the law is, but it's idiotic to require a guy who already has guns to have to go through all the hoopla to buy another. I'll leave it to someone else to have the joy of owning it. I would like to see what the price would be, though, so I'll try to track it down. BTW, how much does it cost for gun transfers these days?

When I was in Maryland I used TK for anything coming out of VA. Both TK and Dominion attend the nation's gun show on in Dulles, so the easiest thing is to have dominion hand your pistol off to TK so there are no shipping fees. Dominion could also probably just ship it to TK.

Trained with PFT a few weeks back, A mother & daughter shootist (dang, they could shoot) was unable to participate in a drill that required one round in chamber and mag out. I believe they stated they were shooting a S&W M&P9, did I hear them correctly?

If so, why would S&W manufacture a defensive firearm with that limitation?

S&W is definitely not the only manufacturer that makes certain models with a mag disconnect "safety". A fair number of older Ruger models include them as well: old SR series (9, .40, .45), LC9, LC380, EC9s, and LCPII. They seem to have moved away from them on newer models, though. I believe that the original Browning HiPower had one as well, IIRC.

Maybe this is old gun rag wives tales but my understanding on why some firearms have this is two reasons.

    1) In primarily a law enforcement application, if an officer is fighting for control of his gun, he can theoretically hit the mag release and not get shot with his own gun.

    2) Somebody racks the slide to eject a round then removes the mag and think it’s empty. Or similarly, remove the mag and thinks it’s empty.

Whether it’s a benefit or not is up to the user…

From what I've seen most law enforcement agencies specify no magazine safety when they buy new pistols.

In a close personal encounter with someone trying to snatch your pistol I doubt if most will take time to think "If I can only hit the magazine release I'll be ok!"
