There are three gun bills whose testimony window closes at 3pm today for hearings this Wednesday starting at 1pm.
    https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/MyMGATracking/WitnessSignup

HB590 would allow those issued a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit under Md. Public Safety Code § 5-307 to carry handguns in Maryland State Parks and Forests. A good bill!

HB659 mandates storage requirements to be more strict than those that currently exist in State law. MSI opposes.

HB816 is a bill in Ways and Means that would exempt the first $500 for a firearms storage device from sales tax. I like it.

Might as well hit HB-0875 in favor of waiving hunting and fishing license fees, too.

Ladies and gents, if you can't or aren't comfortable with providing testimony (written or in-person,) take the time to submit your position on the MyMGA portal. Takes only a few seconds to check the box, type "self", choose your favorable/unfavorable positition, and choose "NONE" for testimony. Then hit the "save" button, top-left.

Takes about as long as it took to read this post ...

Only if the funding is still matched from another source. I don’t like paying license fees, but a fair amount of that money is used for conservation.

Maybe they can levy an extra sales tax on equestrian supplies and horses to fund it?

Update today on two bills MSI is watching. SB338, the bill that would allow the MSP to investigate someone first and then require training before issuance of a permit, was ordered printed for third reading. The same goes for SB286, the cannabis and guns bill.

It's all in the tracker at https://tinyurl.com/guntracker.

Both of these bills were passed unanimously by the Senate this morning 45-0. They now move on to the Judiciary Committee in the House.

HB1288*Public Safety - Handgun Permit Application Fee - Waiver for Disabled Residents
    Delegate Arikan, et al.
As the name implies, this bill would waive application fees for applicants of carry permits for Maryland residents with disabilities. Read our full testimony HERE. MSI SUPPORTS this bill and requests a favorable report.

HB1021*Public Safety – Licensed Firearms Dealers – Security Requirements
    Speaker Jones
This bill imposes strict and very expensive storage, security, and other requirements upon federal firearms licensees across the state, even for those who hold FFL03 Curio and Relics licenses! If enacted, HB1021 would likely force many firearms dealers to close or leave the state, thus making it that much harder for Marylanders to purchase firearms and thus exercise their Second Amendment rights. Read our full testimony HERE. MSI OPPOSES this bill and requests an unfavorable report.
