In I think what is a first, we have changed positions on a bill due to the sponsor turning it from bad to friendly.
Senator Carter amended the bill to create a tax incentive for buying firearms storage devices instead of a regulatory bill. MSI supports!
You can read the amendment in the bill tracker here: https://airtable.com/shrisaCzIZOxrXF46/tblwdSr2zmZtmdKob/rechqf6lkdcY9pUtD

The hearing will be soon in JPR. They're running late due to a long floor session: https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Committees/Media?cmte=jpr

I appreciate the change, but I still find it disturbing that a bill can be introduced, its proponents and opponents given time to create cogent arguments for or against the bill, and then the entire bill gets replaced with one nobody has seen before, just before debate starts. Or, worse, like Del. Dumais did a few years back, discuss a bill in committee and then substitute an entirely new bill that the committee passes under the same number, which then goes straight to 2nd Reader with no opportunity to fight the new bill in committee.

Bumping this to remind everyone that we track every single vote during the legislative session. Every legislator gets a score depending on how they vote. If positive, they are more friendly. If negative, more hostile. Head over to the Legislators tab to see their votes and scores. https://tinyurl.com/guntracker.
If you don't know who represents you or what district you're in, head over to http://mdelect.net to find out.

While MSI does not endorse any candidates, MSI will post legislators' profiles and scores over the last few sessions to inform voters about their attitudes on gun owners' rights.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The software update was not kind to my account, but Kev and the mods fixed me up -- thanks!

MSI will have a MGA wrap-up out soon.

In the meantime, the final statuses of all the bills can be found in our tracker: https://tinyurl.com/guntracker

I'll play Devil's Advocate on this session. While it was bad, it could have been much, much worse. Had Atterbeary's fantasy HB1396/SB0873 moved forward, instead of 2A advocacy groups fighting a couple bad laws in court, every gun-related business, and potentially private gun owner, could have faced financial ruin from multiple nuisance lawsuits from hundreds or thousands of private plaintiffs.

Oh it can always get worse. That's why it's important to maintain a presence there and continue advocacy.

Now, that one bill I would have been delighted to challenge if it had become law. It would have been DOA on the date the suit was filed.
