Nope. The arrests took place and the charging documents were drafted up. Rack showed them in a photo. Now, whether the charges ever made it to the Maryland database depends on whether the clerk ever entered them. I'd file a request for expungement to ensure that the charging documents never see the light of day.

Just as the letter says, the charges were dropped. There was an arrest, there were charges, and the charges were dropped. There is a record of the event out there.

Ditto, and I think those charges can be flipped against officer unfriendly and whoever chose to sic him as a civil rights violation.

At first I figured the officer was doing the loose canon thing and F'd up but now it's pretty apparent his actions were suggested if not ordered.

Problem with slinging poo you the slinger usually gets some on them.

Is it too soon for me to say Sgt. Pope is a Dope

And Stoveman is correct retirements will be coming very soon .

You know, even with the charges being dropped, I am still severely irked each and every time I read about this subject. If I was Jeff and his brother, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep for quite some time. I used to have nightmares about being wrongly arrested. Lord knows I have been wrongly charged before, but no handcuffs were involved and it was not because of a civil rights violation.

Sounds like it's too much trouble for the state to go in and un-enter the arrests in the database.

It shouldn't fall on the citizen to make the state's "Mistake", cough-cough, go away.

The state needs to pony up some incurred legal expenses cash.

I know if it were me, I'd have to see a doctor or 2. Seek help. It's gotta be a life changing experience. I know I wouldn't be able to handle it.

I wonder if they believe people think of them differently now that they've been arrested too?

I do. I respect them 10 times more now. They have the courage of their convictions.

Better men you will not find.

    Fabs ,

I could not agree more , it was wrong in every way . I think the only way for complete transparency and healing is for the person that ordered the arrest be revealed and exposed .
Then at that point Rack & DL can begin to trust and heal from the illegal acts forced upon them .

I also know you are also aware of my own dear son arrested , finger printed , had to sign papers for a 2nd degree assault . It is morally corrupt .

DGS Spox confirms charges to be dropped today.

Statement: "After a thorough review of all the evidence and supporting documentation, and after consulting with the Anne Arundel County States Attorney’s Office; the Maryland Capitol Police believes it is in the best interest of all parties involved not to pursue any criminal charges against Mr. Jeff Hulbert and Mr. Kevin Hulbert. Both defendants were charged on Monday, February 5, 2018. Today, MCP forwarded an official request to the states attorney’s office, asking that all the criminal charges in this case be dropped.

"The Maryland Capitol Police fully supports the 1st Amendment Rights of freedom of speech and the right to peacefully assemble. The department is committed to providing a safe environment for employees, visitors, and demonstrators that frequent state facilities, which is why the Maryland Capitol Police have the ability to determine times, locations, and venues in which these demonstrations may occur; particularly when it involves the safety of others. The Maryland Capitol Police work hard at facilitating an orderly environment that is safe and pleasant for all to express their 1st amendment rights.

The department will use this event to strengthen our community outreach training efforts and to further educate our officers and the general public, in order to clarify our "Demonstrating on Public Property" procedures so the policy is clear and understandable to the public for future demonstrations."

No thanks. I have already read the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. I decline to be "further educated" on the proper time, place and manner of begging the Crown for the redress of grievances in a designated Free Speech Zone.

I have also read the Constitution of Maryland, and will reference it directly -

Art. 10. That freedom of speech and debate, or proceedings in the Legislature, ought not to be impeached in any Court of Judicature.

Art. 13. That every man hath a right to petition the Legislature for the redress of grievances in a peaceable and orderly manner.

And to assuage the pain, pocket a large sum of cash after they win their 1983 lawsuit.

Like most of us here I'll be there Monday night. But if I had one thing to add it is:

    This cannot end Monday!

The enemy has shown us his true character: that of an authoritarian ruling class who think they can deprive us of clear Constitutional rights. They don't like and can't tolerate dissent. To them, we're just serfs to be controlled, whether that's controlling our speech or denying our civil rights to self defense. We don't matter; only they do. And they'll keep pushing, taking away more and more freedom and liberty, in every way possible, until we have nothing left.

They are the modern day Tories. Their great-great-great Grandparents allied themselves with King George. They and their ilk are responsible for the Gulags, for the poverty and enslavement in Cuba, Venezuela, in North Korea, and so many other places where the arrogant elite think they are smarter than everyone else, they are more discerning than everyone else, they are more moral than everyone else, and only they have the insight and wisdom to run and control everyone else's economies, lives, actions, and liberties. They dole out favors to those who they deem fit, who are friends or lackeys, and deny or punish those who dare to differ. They preach diversity, but cannot and will not allow diversity of thought.

We've won the first round, thanks to the patriotism and courage of Jeff and Kevin, the able legal assistance of CharlieFoxtrot, and the intervention of Maryland Republican Leadership and others who came to their better senses. But we can't give up now. We can't back down.

it's a very good thing that we're there on Monday evening. But this is a call to arms to be there every Monday evening, and every time those who would trample us under their feet are forced to interact with and see those of us who they disdainfully rule. Jeff and Kevin and a handful of others have held the line for far too long. It's time for reinforcements.

    It won't end on Monday.

Home from work and catching up.

They can't weasel out of this. Their flagrant infringement of this fundamental, core American principle cannot be undone or swept under the rug.

Let the people stand up, let the oppresor be exposed, shamed, and condemned.

This statement is going to be great during the depositions of the civil rights violation lawsuit.

Honest question, does anyone here really think anyone will be held accountable for violating these people’s rights?

I don’t know, but I imagine they will just say the charges were dropped so no harm no foul. I mean this happens ALL of the time. Granted it might not happen to this community much, but it happens.
