Ship the handguns to a dealer that will hold packages but not open them. Rifles and shotguns can be shipped USPS. Other than that, the costs go up considerably (courier service).
Or ship them to yourself before you move.
That would make sense but he is single and he didn't have a residence/address to ship them too. Plus he drove across the US over the course of several days, stayed in hotels, and did not want to have firearms in his car or have to deal with possible FOPA issues.

Another reason to get your FFL 03. Then you can ship handguns to yourself.
