Happy Birtday. Bullets have length and diameter. 30-06=7.62mm which is less than 9mm.

    Not my bd...

I know that bullets have diameter and length, but the comparison of a 9mm pistol round to a rifle round ... frankly confuses me!

How? Not being funny, what causes the issues? What most of us call a 9mm, aka 9mm Luger has a bullet that is .355" diameter. The almost straight walled case is 19 mm long.(about .71" long) The .30-06 has a bullet that is .308" in diameter and the case is 63mm long. 63 divided by 25.4= a case just under 2.5" long.

A 9mm bullet can range in weight from 90 grains to 147 grains. .308" bullets go from 110 grain to 220 grains. Some bullets in either size may be heavier yet.

I agree this is a weird question unless you are trying to put a 9mm bullet on to a 30-06 case, then i would say you are probably not the brightest diamond at jareds. Lol

    Taking a stab at OP's confusion :

The .30-06 loaded ctg is Way bigger than the 9mm . Likewise the .30-06 is way more "powerful" ( by any of the various criteria) than the 9mm. So how can the 9mm be "bigger" ?

It is an apples to oranges comparison of a Rifle ctg vs a pistol ctg. The '06 has much larger powder capacity , and higher pressure, resulting in velocities 2 to 2.5+ times higher than 9mm . It is not capable of being used in a conventional handgun. The actual bullet dia is the least important factor in this comparison.

    Why do you care?
    seriously

    Why do you care?

The reason this is very conserning to some people is because it sounds like the OP wants to do something very stupid and could kill himself in the process

Well, it would be interesting to see someone shove a .30-06 round into a 9x19 pistol. (or carbine)

The .30 Luger has been around, for over 100 years.

True. I was just thinking if someone thought that necking a 9x19 case down, to .30, was something new.

Almost every case and bullet diameter has been tried. Of course, a new name sometimes revives an old round.

The OP bought a bore snake for a 308 etc and was wondering if it would work ok for a 9mm barrel also. If not I will buy one for a 9mm barrel. Thanks guys
