I'm going to make your week again with this news:

The Maryland Transit Administration will seek approval next month for as much as $425 million in “relief payments” related to delays in the Purple Line light rail project.

Officials announced the extra payments along with a roughly 234-day delay that will push the line’s completion back from spring of 2027 to December of that year.
    you've made my month

Elrich speaks to MoCo PD's officer shortage and its recruiting troubles. (@18:11)

Says that the Education Requirement and the Accrediting Commission's Prior Cannabis Usage rule hinders recruitment.

So they now won't ask about past cannabis use during recruitment and will require that applicants commit to not using it moving forward during training and their career as required by Federal Law.

He also wants to eliminate/modify the college degree requirement as well.

    Thoughts?

Holy crap, I watched about 8 seconds of this guy and could not take him seriously. I don't know much about his credentials or past, but all I said to myself is HOW can anyone take him seriously, let alone give him power over their county government?

He's such an unimpressive person, but he's a reflection of who voted for him.

This is the right answer. If you can't even get enough people in the door to do the work, do you think the training schedule is going to be very good?

There is no doubt in my mind that there are many brave, well-meaning men and women in MoCo's police force. Unfortunately, you lower standards, you're going to wind up with people who shouldn't be there.

NJ has long been given cops the ability to smoke weed.

Obviously not on the job but just like having a beer, as long as its not on the clock.

The polygraphs given fail people the most, a few guys i know have gotten "inconclusive". The accuracy of those things are in question in most cases. Guys with 10+ yrs of being a LEO get a polygraph for a fed job and fail it.

While there are probably more incompetent people among the ranks now...i've been told by a few cops its always been that way. There are goons in every agency walking around with no business being a cop but its been like that forever.

He said the candidates, whom he did not name, would be interviewed by a team of county leaders before he interviewed them during the first week of April.

If an internal candidate doesn’t make the cut, Elrich said the county will hire a firm to conduct a national search.
