Because it was relief that he did only that - a regulatory twitch - heading off congress from what they were about to do, making it an actual law, along with AWB 2.0 and more in the immediate wake of two mass shooting that no congresscreature could have resisted. That's why.

No, he said that in the context of being in a room full of press and activists just hours after a disturbed person with a long history of being patted on the head by law enforcement shot up a school and killed a bunch of people. It was an off the cuff remark by a guy who's not a lawyer, not an expert on guns and crazy people, and who emotionally responded in exactly the same way YOU would if there was a crazy guy ranting and waving a gun around on the street outside your house: you'd want the cops to grab him, take the gun out of his hands, and THEN go through due process.

Name one tangible formal policy position, let alone actual action he's taken during his presidency that reinforces any sort of no-due-process on that front. Go for it.

That’s pretty accurate. He’s not a lawyer, a politician, or an expert on a wide variety of legal, constitutional, and regulatory matters. Though you’ll notice his casual remarks on topics he’s dealt with professionally for decades are far more nuanced and contextually comprehensive - and some of that does stray into POTUS overlap territory. Otherwise, it’s like talking to your neighbor about contentious current events as they unfold. Actual policy actions are a completely different matter.

Back on original topic , the closest parallel is to cap & ball conversion cylinders . Most sellers won't ship a conversion cylinder and a C&B revolver in the same package . Was that absolutely required , or erring on caution ?
