Merino wool gets my vote year round. Darn Tough and Smartwool are great options and made in the USA.
I'm wearing through my last 5 pairs of the Kirkland Merino socks of yore and will be breaking out the Smartwool socks after that. I like Merino year round for hiking, well really for anything if I'm wearing socks.
+1 w/the proponents of Merino wool. Personal experience w/Darn Tough and SmartWool for both hiking and running. Worth every penny ever spent--Merino wool blend, different weight dependent on weather. Darn Tough, Smartwool, Icebreaker, farm-to-feet, theres others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
Fox River. Some of the best hiking socks I own.So, we have a thread on boots: https://www.mdshooters.com/threads/boot-recommendations.281740/

Darn tough is another of my favorites.Merino wool gets my vote year round. Darn Tough and Smartwool are great options and made in the USA.
I just looked down at my feet and I'm wearing these right now. I work on my feet all day and quality socks prevent a lot of pain.Wool always. Light/medium most of the time, thicker if I'm going to be out all day in the cold.
I have about a dozen pair of these. Great for everyday wear, long walks with the dogs (1-2 miles), winter or summer with hiking shoes, and they last a long time.
Get something thicker for staying out all day in the snow or cold.
Wright brand socks.Double Sock with Polypropylene Liner and Wool or SmartWool Outer
Darn Tough lost me when they started wearing their politics more than their socks.Merino wool gets my vote year round. Darn Tough and Smartwool are great options and made in the USA.
I buy Fox River at the Exchange and they are awesome.Fox River. Some of the best hiking socks I own.
This has been my approach as well including the crocs.These. All I wear now. Cheap in cost, easily replaced.
I wear them with my motorcycle boots, my W/P Brahma airfield boots in winter, my running shoes, my loafers, and I’ve even been known to wear them with my Croc’s.
Good fitting footwear is key. Not the socks so much IMHO.
I do have quite an arsenal of wool and other types of socks. On hand, but no longer worn.
