I'm wearing through my last 5 pairs of the Kirkland Merino socks of yore and will be breaking out the Smartwool socks after that. I like Merino year round for hiking, well really for anything if I'm wearing socks.

I'm still wearing antique Army issue, over 30 yrs old and still extremely durable. Slightly stretched out.

Merino wool blend, different weight dependent on weather. Darn Tough, Smartwool, Icebreaker, farm-to-feet, theres others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Merino wool gets my vote year round. Darn Tough and Smartwool are great options and made in the USA.

+1 w/the proponents of Merino wool. Personal experience w/Darn Tough and SmartWool for both hiking and running. Worth every penny ever spent--

Wool always. Light/medium most of the time, thicker if I'm going to be out all day in the cold.

I have about a dozen pair of these. Great for everyday wear, long walks with the dogs (1-2 miles), winter or summer with hiking shoes, and they last a long time.

Get something thicker for staying out all day in the snow or cold.
I just looked down at my feet and I'm wearing these right now. I work on my feet all day and quality socks prevent a lot of pain.

These. All I wear now. Cheap in cost, easily replaced.

I wear them with my motorcycle boots, my W/P Brahma airfield boots in winter, my running shoes, my loafers, and I’ve even been known to wear them with my Croc’s. :outta her

Good fitting footwear is key. Not the socks so much IMHO.

I do have quite an arsenal of wool and other types of socks. On hand, but no longer worn.

Smartwool for me. Also have several pairs of REI wool socks I got on sale a while ago. Cotton in summer, and when the rest is in the wash.

I have warn wool and Merino wool socks, year round, for years. No cotton for this kid. I have been a huge fan of Smartwool in that regard. Lately though, I've been ordering my Smartwool from Amazonians and after two or three washings, I can't get them on my feet. Please tell me I've been buying knock-offs from Amazon and the Smartwool I've grown to love remains a good sock. :(

I've been buying the 3/4 crew smart wool from LL Bean because I can get them in my size and they aren't overt assholes like Darn Tough.

This has been my approach as well including the crocs.
My issue with socks is I wear out the heel.
