I was shooting a mossy 500 with buckshot and thought I would try it left handed. I didnt seat the but firmly against my shoulder and when I fired, it had some space to accelerate in before it rammed and battered my body. lesson learned.

I honestly can't remember if I ever got a bruise from shooting, but 8mm Mauser from a K98k and .30-06 from a M1903A3 have really given me a sore shoulder the next day.

For some reason my Mosin's don't bother me much, but I'm shooting light ball.

Edit: The sore shoulder is only from firing from the bench.

I have a featherweight model 70 in 270 WSM and it broke my nose the first time I pulled the trigger. Does that count? :) I wasn't expecting quite that much recoil and wasn't properly setup.

A older Mark 5 Weatherby 300WM from the bench.
At Marroittsville range.Got a very nice deep scope cut.
Taken to Balto County General on Old Court Rd.
Took 17 stiches, that's inside and out.
Had a real interesting headache next day.
Still have the scar to prove it happened.
Not one of my better days.

No stitches, but the scope scar is still there; .375 H&H 300 grainers off the bench.

I shot a buddy's Nitro 577 express. It was a double barreled rifle. - It left a mark.

    Honorable mention
    Winchester Model 88 in .308
    03-A3

.458 Win Mag, shooting 15 rounds of factory 510 grainers off the bench; some bruising.

    10/22 with hot subsonic rounds.

Haven't experienced that but understand it can lead to dislocation of the shoulder along with broken collar bone.:lol2:

    No, really...

...winchester 1100 12 ga slug gun, minor bruising, however the same exact gun really did in the orginal owner's shoulder one day at the range. He was trying some sort of 3" magnum loads that were suppossed to hit a deer at up to 200 yards. He couldn't get 200 yards, but he sure messed his shoulder up after about 6 shots.

My M44 and 12 ga slugs leave me battered and bruised...so i dont shoot them much any more.

On the other hand, the scope on a friends Remington 3600 in 30-06 broke my glasses. And yes i felt like a total loser leaving the range not being able to see.
